ATCO Group - ATCO is a true global success story. The company began in 1947 in Alberta, Canada when S.D. Southern and his son, R.D. Southern, started Alberta Trailer Hire to provide housing accomodations to workers in Canada's first oil boom. Since the production of these iconic yellow huts, the ATCO Group has evolved as a global player in various industries, with a presence in Australia dating back to 1961.

ATCO Australia Pty Ltd., headquartered in Perth, WA, represents a full range of energy services, primarily in the resources-based industries. Due to ongoing growth within the company and the recent aquisition of other companies, ATCO required a larger premises within Perth and Habitat 1 were engaged to complete the fitout of this newly aquired office space. ATCO wanted a fitout that complimented their stature within the industry whilst reflecting their corporate values and meeting their functional requirements. Habitat 1 conceptualised a space that represented a timeline whereby the history and capabilities of ATCO were graphically presented throughout the fitout. Working closely with ATCO, Habitat 1 were able to create a timeless fitout that incorporated natural materials such as spotted gum timber, stone wall and floor tiles, and spaces which encouraged reflection and reminiscence, enhanced by the subtle use of blues and greens and black and white imagery.

The key features of the fit out are:

  • A warm and contemporary reception shared with their in-house lawyers, Bennett Jones
  • A combination of open plan and executive offices which enabled a separation between their environment and privacy at each workpoint
  • Boardroom with sweeping views over the Swan River
  • Cafe-style breakout area for casual client meetings and in-house staff lunches
  • Think space overlooking the river utilised for more casual breakout space
  • Display area leading into the boardroom to showcase the history of ATCO
  • Sharing of natural light and views throughout the office
  • The use of glazing film to graphically tell the story of ATCO

The end result was a sophisticated and timeless space, with an excess of natural light and amazing views straight out over the Swan River.
